Urbanization in Global Perspective

Urban  is a sub field of sociology that examines  social relationships and political and economic structures in the dry. According to urban sociologists, a city
is a relatively dense and permanent settlement of people who secure their livelihood primarily through non agricultural activities. Although cities have existed for thousands of years, only about 3 percent of the world’s population lived in cities 200 years ago, as compared with almost 50 percent today. Current estimates suggest that two out of every three people around the world will live in urban areas by 2050 (United Nations, 2000). Thus, the process of urbanization continues on a global basis.
