Although marriage at increasingly younger ages was the trend in the United States during the first half of the twentieth century. by the 1960 s the trend had reversed and many more adults were remaining Single. Currently. almost 80 million single adults reside in the United States (US. Census Bureau, 2007). Some people remain single by choice, whereas others are single because they are not in the age brackets most likely to be married.
